Every 4WD YouTube video seems to have a fridge and a battery. I thought I’d better fit in. I started looking for what system to get and came across iTechWorld just by searching. The thing that made me take an interest was the professional look of their equipment — it looks engineered and integrated. Just like a certain phone manufacturer.
The 120Ah battery size fitted what I thought I’d need: enough to keep the fridge running for four days if recharging wasn’t an option, and having a cold beer was crucial. The battery box with the integrated 40A DC-DC charger and battery base sold me on the system. It all looked good quality, not cheap, and looked like it had been engineered to work together. The wiring kits include solid Anderson plugs and wire rated for the job.
After much soul searching I figured out how to run the heavy-duty wires from the crank battery to the rear of the Prado. There are a few videos online that miss the crucial steps. Once fitted, the DC-DC converter handles the charging — I never have to worry about the battery being topped up if we’re on a drive. After 48 hours running the fridge and charging devices, I’m still seeing over 70%. Charging devices is easy, and running my laptop off the USB-C output is possible. The straps holding the battery box down are well made and do the job.
For the geek, the app is great — showing cell voltage and battery temperature. I really am a show-me-the-details kind of person, even when I have no idea what they all mean.
